ABOUT

Autism is a mental condition present from early childhood. It is characterized  with various symptoms such as trouble communicating, speaking, building relationships with others, etc.

Lots of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are diagnosed around the ages 18 months to 4 years. Often times, children that start training and therapy sessions are at an advantage that children that start later because children under five years of age can adapt and learn more easily.

Toxic exposures during pregnancy can lead to disruption and affect the deliverance of the child. Women who are stressed during pregnancies have an increased likelihood of having children with autistic-like traits. A major "stressor" or a life-changing event that brings a large amount of stress, seems to intermix with periods of the child's fetal cerebellum. The fetal cerebellum is a key portion of the brain that is structurally different in autistic children.  Children with ASD have mutations in their genes, that strip them of their abilities to do many common functions.

Research Project

By researching ASD, our goal is to spread awareness throughout our community.  With the help of a pediatrician, we have created a series of questions for mothers of children diagnosed with ASD. This questionnaire will help to gather information as to how different stress factors during pregnancy can be related to ASD.  I want to personally thank you for your time and participation in the questionnaire.
